Garden Vision

In 1998 Paul Ciener directed his sons to create "a world class Botanical Garden as fine as any in the state with a focus on educating children of all ages." The garden he inspired, Paul J. Ciener Botanical Garden, is located in Kernersville -- a historic town centrally located in the Piedmont Triad of Greensboro/High Point, and Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Since the Grand Opening of the first two permanent buildings and five gardens in April 2011, the Garden has been connecting people with plants from all over the world through tours, exhibits, and special events. The gardens themselves are open for public enjoyment free of charge from dawn to dusk 365 days a year.

Today, the Garden features:

  • 7 acres under development
  • 10 gardens showcasing 1000 different kinds of plants
  • an off-site nursery facility growing over 2500 plant collections
  • 100 volunteers
  • 7 staff members
  • 220 member households
  • 1 award-winning Perennial Border
  • the largest spring-flowering bulb display in the Piedmont
  • 1 Kitchen Garden producing 3 seasons of fruits and vegetables
  • 2 unusual garden features “in the becoming” - a screen of 46 Ginkgo trees and 18 pleached Hornbeam trees

With further support, 15 gardens are to come . . . including an outdoor amphitheater for concerts, a Japanese Garden, a Children’s Learning Garden, a Mosaic Hedge consisting of evergreen and deciduous shrubs, as well as a restaurant. Have a question? Contact us today and we’ll be happy to help!
